Abstract

Access to safe water in Paraguay is always vulnerable due to multiple factors. This situation favors the proliferation of diseases generated and transmitted due to the consumption of contaminated water. Currently, numerous treatment options are offered in the market at different levels of complexity. This exploratory research was decided to describe the manufacturing process and artisan ceramic filters' operation. To collect data on the processes related to current manufacturing methods nationwide, the facilities where these are produced were visited, inquiring into the methods and modes of application. Subsequently, interviews were conducted with experts in the area and key actors to add important data for this research. It was observed that the processes and materials involved in the manufacture of ceramic filters in the production unit present characteristics that link this product with social, economic, environmental, and cultural sustainability, with community involvement in its production and provision of domestic care of the water quality for consumption in the family.
