Abstract

The use of satellite images has become a very important tool for the analysis of territorial dynamics and with the existence of several satellites that allow their non-commercial use, the use of these images in different areas and fields of research is encouraged. In this study, Landsat 8 Sensor OLI Satellite images obtained from the U.S. Geological Survey web server, corresponding to the dates 16/6/2013, 1/2/2016 and 26/9/2021 were analyzed. With the purpose of knowing the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), for each date, in that period, focusing on the Chiguará parish, located in the Venezuelan Andes of the state of Mérida, the Free Software QGIS Version 3.16.4 was used. From the results obtained, we corroborate the importance of the use of remote sensing tools. With respect to the NDVI value obtained for the study area, we observed, in general terms, an increase in dense vegetation, as well as a decrease in exposed soils, an important data that may indicate the scarce presence of anthropic activities in this parish.
