School Health Nursing Care for Children and Adolescents

Abstract

Among the functions of the school nurse is to contribute to healthy development and provide adequate care, seeking to fill the knowledge gap that may exist in teachers, parents and students. Guaranteeing great benefits such as creating healthy habits through health promotion, as well as the prevention of diseases in order to take care of the school health of children and adolescents. Objective: To describe School Health Nursing Care in children and adolescents in Guayaquil, Ecuador. Materials and methods: It was developed under the quantitative modality, with a positivist paradigmatic approach, focused on the objective of the study and achieving responses through the surveys carried out. Result: It was observed that 62% of the respondents always and almost always raise awareness among the population about health promotion, likewise, 48% consider that they almost always adapt to the needs of the population. On the other hand, 34% always give specific information to teachers and family members on health promotion and 41% of those surveyed adjust the teaching methodology. Likewise, 44% indicate that they always and almost always receive information about vaccination and 20% of nurses said that they participate in school plans. And finally, 33% of those surveyed always and almost always identify school health problems and 51% of those surveyed almost always make these referrals. Conclusion: In relation to the health care of children and adolescents, it is possible to identify that nurses do carry out health promotion activities, managing to limit the risks to which these age groups are exposed and involving parents in the protection of school health.
