About the Journal

Focus and Scope

ScientiAmericana is the open-access electronic scientific journal of Universidad Sudamericana, Paraguay. Published without interruption since 2014, it has been issued by this university since volume 10, number 1 (2023), and its content is devoted exclusively to the health sciences.

The journal publishes original, previously unpublished work in the basic and clinical disciplines of the health sciences, as well as research in public health, epidemiology, health sciences education, nursing, dentistry and related fields. Manuscripts are accepted from national and international authors, with no restriction as to institutional affiliation.

Aim: To contribute to the dissemination of scientific knowledge in the health sciences through the publication of peer-reviewed research, with particular attention to work produced in Paraguay and the region, and to make it freely and immediately available at no cost to authors or readers.

Intended readership: Researchers, teaching staff, practitioners and undergraduate and postgraduate students in the health field, as well as health policy managers with an interest in evidence generated in Latin American settings.

Languages: Manuscripts are received and published in Spanish, English and Portuguese. Regardless of the language of the full text, every article is published with its title, abstract and keywords in both Spanish and English.

Publication frequency

From volume 13, number 1 (2026), ScientiAmericana has adopted continuous publication. The journal issues one volume and one number per calendar year, which is completed progressively: each article is published as soon as its editorial process is finished, without waiting for the number to close.

Each article receives a sequential electronic identifier (for example, e325) in place of traditional pagination, together with a digital object identifier (DOI) assigned at the time of publication, which remains unchanged thereafter.

Volumes prior to volume 13 were published on a four-monthly basis, in three numbers per year.

Open access policy

ScientiAmericana is an open access journal. All of its content is freely available to users and their institutions from the moment of publication, with no embargo period, no registration requirement and no economic, legal or technical barrier of any kind.

Readers may read, download, copy, distribute, print, search or link to the full texts of articles, use them for any lawful purpose and employ them as teaching material, provided that authorship and the original source are acknowledged.

This policy conforms to the definition of open access set out in the Budapest Declaration and corresponds to the model known as gold open access, with no charges to authors.
